Bolting priorities in canyoneering
Here is a good example (photo) on approaching bolting with the wrong priorities in mind.
Good hardware
Good configuration
but…
Wrong location
In the last 3,5 years there has been this trend to bolt sandstone canyons with glue-ins. While this selection is better for longevity, it is absolutely a galactic mess when placed in the wrong place. Super hard to relocate. Relocation becomes an exercise in deciding what is going to scar the canyon more:
Rope Grooves, or
Glue-in removal
Take a look at the photo, the rope grooves are already deep enough to get your rope very stuck.
